LINDY BURGESS

Lindy Burgess is a multi-talented musician, arranger, educator, and singer who has dedicated

decades to studying and teaching the folk music of Trinidad and Tobago. Since 1975, he has

served as the Music Director of the legendary folk chorale La Petite Musicale. Under his

leadership, the group has developed an extensive repertoire of parang, calypso, folk, gospel,

and classical music, and has produced four major recordings, including Levanta (2014).

An accomplished cuatro player and arranger, Lindy has collaborated with numerous local artists

and frequently serves as a judge for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival's annual steelpan and

calypso competitions. His immense contributions to the Caribbean arts community have earned

him several prestigious honors, including the 2014 Award for Musical Arts from the Trinidad and

Tobago Consul General in Canada.

As a dedicated educator, Lindy taught music with the Toronto District School Board for over

twenty years. He has also shared his expertise at York University, teaching courses in

Caribbean ensemble playing and Latin American and Caribbean music history.
